About Me

Names have meanings. I live with Beloved, Who is like God? God is gracious, and Steadfast and faithful. My name has a meaning, too. For years, I was told it meant intoxicated. Then one day a woman at a Bible study dispelled that myth. “Sherri means plain one,” she told me. Plain one.  It’s not rich and meaningful, but it does fit. I am a simple woman, grateful to be a disciple of Jesus, my Lord and Savior who knows me by name. I’m content staying home to care for my family. I'm happy teaching students who want to learn. You won’t find anything fancy here—just some simple thoughts and ideas from someone who is growing by degrees and who desires others to do the same.

Other Tidbits about Me
  • I was born and raised in Oregon. I now live in Pennsylvania, in a home across the creek from where my husband spent his childhood.
  • I've been married for 22 years to a man who shares my birthday. I am exactly 18 minutes older than he!
  • I have three girls, ages 19, 17, and 15, who have been homeschooled since birth. My oldest has left me for college.
  • As a young girl, I dreamed of being a teacher. I spent hours teaching the dolls and stuffed animals in my bedroom. When they were unruly, I turned out the lights and yelled at them. I have since refined my classroom management (and parenting) methods.
  • I graduated from college with a B. A. in English Education. I completed all but the practicum for a TESOL minor. (Why, oh why, did I quit? I really can't remember.) My certification is for grades 7-12.
  • For four years, I taught eighth grade English and literature at a private Christian school.
  • While teaching my girls, I have also tutored and taught other homeschooled children.
  • I love children.
  • Learning about and teaching the English language make me happy.
